The area of Laurens, New York was settled in 1774. The Village of Laurens was incorporated in 1811. In 1860, the village had a population of 726 and contained a tannery, an iron foundry, a sawmill, and a cotton mill that was powered by water from Gilbert Lake. The current estimated population in the village is 263 based on the 2010 census.
This project is funded by Earlville Opera House's Arts in the Community Grants Program, made possible by the NYS Senate with support of the Office of the Governor, and administered by the New York State Council on the Arts.
