
The area of Laurens, New York was settled in 1774. The Village of Laurens was incorporated in 1811. In 1860, the village had a population of 726 and contained a tannery, an iron foundry, a sawmill, and a cotton mill that was powered by water from Gilbert Lake. The current estimated population in the village is 263 based on the 2010 census.
